Apple Pay provides a fast and secure checkout experience by allowing customers to pay with cards saved in their Apple Wallet. Payments are authenticated directly on the device, so customers do not need to enter card details manually. Merchant fees for Apple Pay payments follow Paytrail pricing. Customers are not charged any fees for paying with Apple Pay.

Who can offer Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is subject to industry-specific restrictions based on Apple’s terms. Certain business models and product categories may not be eligible.
Before activating Apple Pay, review the payment method specific rules in Paytrail terms and conditions.
Apple Pay cannot be used on the Shopify platform when using our service.
Step-by-step: Activate Apple Pay in the Merchant panel
- Sign in to the Merchant panel.
- From the left-hand menu, select Payment methods.
- Find Apple Pay and click Activate, or send an activation request by clicking Send application. Our team will review your request within a few business days. We’ll contact you once the review is complete.
This instruction applies when Apple Pay is used with payment page bypass. If Apple Pay was activated before March 10, 2025, the older Apple Pay implementation is most likely in use.
The older implementation required the following steps:
- Adding the store URL in the Merchant panel
- Adding Apple’s verification file to the website
In this implementation, Apple Pay is returned in the API response within the customProviders element.
In the newer implementation, Apple Pay works the same way as other payment methods. Apple Pay is returned in the API response under the mobile payment method group.
