In this article, you'll find an introduction to Apple Pay and instructions on how to set it up.
What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay makes your Apple device a secure means of payment: the consumer can pay with the cards attached to the device, and there is no need to worry about entering card information. For online shopping, Apple Pay is available in the Safari browser on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Payment can be accepted directly on the device with one click. The use of the payment method is free for consumers. You can find the merchant's costs in Paytrail's price list. Read more about Apple Pay.
Who can use Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is available in Paytrail either through the payment page or as an in-store payment button.
There are industry-specific restrictions on the use of this payment method due to Apple's terms. Check out Apple's terms and conditions.
NOTE: Apple Pay cannot be used if you use the Shopify platform in your online store.
Apple Pay set-up, if you use Paytrail's own payment page:
- Log in to the Merchant panel with your username
- From the menu on the left, select Payment methods
- Scroll down until you see Apple Pay
- Toggle the payment method on under Status. You can find the special terms of the payment method in the Merchant panel.
Activating Apple Pay requires that you have also activated credit card payments in the Merchant panel. If you don't already have credit card payments, submit an application in the Merchant panel. Check our payment method activation article if needed.
Apple Pay set-up, if you use embedded payment methods in your online store:
- Log in to the Merchant panel with your username

- Scroll down until you see Apple Pay
- Toggle the payment method on under Status. You can find the special terms of the payment method in the Merchant panel.
- Add the Apple verification file to the sites where you want to offer Apple Pay. Instructions can be found either through the Merchant panel or from the link below the image.
- See the integration documentation for instructions on adding a verification file.
- Once you've added the file, go back to the Merchant panel.
- Add the URL addresses of the websites that you added the verification file and want to use Apple Pay's payment method.
- Enter the address in the field provided and press Add. Enter one address at a time.
*If you use the Magento or MyCashflow e-commerce platform, it is not currently possible to use Apple Pay as an embedded payment button. Using Apple Pay on these e-commerce platforms requires that you disable the embedded payment methods in your e-commerce settings. Check MyCashflow's instructions for removing embedding.
On the WooCommerce platform, Apple Pay can be found as an embedded payment button in add-ons implemented by Markup and WebData. After you have added the URL of the online store in the appropriate field in the Merchant panel, Apple Pay is activated in the settings of the Markup add-on under Apple Pay.
Activating Apple Pay with the WebData add-on requires a separate verification.
