What’s changing in Siirto

Siirto will be updated in spring 2026. The update expands availability to more banks and updates the payment experience. See what’s changing, what stays the same, and what it means for merchants using the Paytrail service.

What has changed

  • Payments are completed directly in the customer’s bank app. Customers no longer need a separate Siirto app, and the payment flow takes place in their familiar banking environment.
  • Siirto will be available for e-commerce payments in phases according to bank-specific schedules:
    • For OP customers, available from June 3, 2026.
    • For Nordea customers, available by September 2026.
    • Availability will expand as additional banks join.
  • The mobile payment flow is simplified with a direct app-to-app flow. Customers are redirected to their bank app to authenticate and approve the payment without switching between apps.
  • Siirto supports native integration in mobile apps, enabling a smoother payment experience in app-based checkouts.
  • Payments continue to be processed in real time, now using SEPA Instant Transfers.
  • Siirto is jointly owned by OP Pohjola ja Nordea.

What stays the same

  • Customers confirm payments using strong authentication.
  • Siirto remains free for customers to use.

What this means for merchants

  • Siirto payments work as before in the Paytrail service.
  • Siirto will be available to more customers at checkout, with user growth supported through joint marketing by Siirto and the banks.
  • A smoother mobile payment experience can reduce friction at checkout.
