Manual invoice activation for Klarna and Walley in Shopify

Manual invoice activation in Shopify lets you control when Walley and Klarna invoices are activated. Instead of activating the invoice right after checkout, the invoice is activated when you process the order in Shopify, within the time limits set by each payment method.

Invoice activation time limits:

  • Walley: up to 90 days
  • Klarna: up to 28 days

After this time limit expires, the invoice can no longer be activated.

Until the invoice is activated, the payment remains in a pending state and is not settled to you. The settlement is created only after the invoice has been successfully activated.

Manual invoice activation is not enabled by default in Shopify. To use it, update both your Shopify store settings and your payment method settings.

Shopify store settings

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Settings.
  2. Select Payments.
  3. Open Payment capture.
  4. Select either Automatically when the full order is fulfilled or Manually.
    • If Automatically at checkout is selected, manual invoice activation is not possible.
  5. Save your changes.

Payment method settings

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Settings.
  2. Select Payments.
  3. Open Paytrail, or Walley/Klarna (Paytrail) if you use payment page bypass.
  4. Select More actions, then select Manage.
  5. Select Manual invoice activation, then select Enable.
  6. Save your changes.

How invoice activation works in Shopify

After manual invoice activation is enabled, Walley and Klarna orders are not charged automatically at checkout.

  1. Open the order in Shopify.
  2. Select Mark as fulfilled. This sends the invoice activation request to the payment method.
  3. Wait briefly for the invoice to activate.

After the invoice is activated, a successful charge is recorded in the order timeline.
