From 19.06.2026, consumer protection legislation requires online stores to provide consumers with a clear and easy-to-find cancellation function when they have a statutory right of withdrawal. Learn what the cancellation function is, when it applies, and where to find official guidance for implementing it.
What is the cancellation function?
The cancellation function enables consumers to exercise their statutory right of withdrawal for purchases or service contracts made online. It must be available in the same online store or app where the purchase or contract is made, making it as easy for consumers to cancel as it is to enter into the agreement.
The cancellation function complements existing cancellation methods, such as the standard withdrawal form or cancellation by email. It does not replace these options.
What should merchants do?
If your online store is affected by the requirement, make sure the required cancellation function is available to consumers. You should also review your terms and conditions, customer instructions, and other consumer information to ensure they reflect the current legal requirements.
For detailed legal guidance and implementation requirements, read the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority’s guidance on the cancellation function.
