With Paytrail, it is possible to accept payments for the following card payment methods: Visa, Mastercard. American Express*, MobilePay and Apple Pay.
*American Express is only available to merchants with businesses registered in Finland.
Card payments through Paytrail are processed mainly by Nets, so Nets is the acquirer. Payment is subject to the rules of the card schemes (e.g. Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and Nets acquiring terms and conditions. The rules oblige the merchant in the same way as Paytrail because the merchant will accept card payments under an agreement between Nets and Paytrail. You will find links to the card scheme rules at the end of this article.
Receiving card payments through Paytrail is, in principle, safe. All traditional card payments are verified using certification methods for card companies (e.g. Mastercard securecode, Verified by Visa) if the card is included in the certification program. This effectively reduces card fraud.
Since payments through Paytrail occur without a physical card, there is a risk of misuse. We track payments through Paytrail and Nets and we endeavor to notify the merchant whenever we suspect a fraudulent card charge. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date.
However, it is important that as the merchant you also review your orders. Should you have any concerns about the authenticity of the order, please contact us. We are happy to examine the situation and provide assistance regarding the payment in question.
There is a risk of chargebacks for card payments. A good basic check for card payments is to look at the card payment information (in the Merchant panel) and check the issuer country. If the issuer country and the customer's IP country do not match, or the IP country seems suspicious, it may be good to review the situation in more detail. Please contact us if you have any concerns about a payment: support@paytrail.com or +358 20 718 1820.

As a merchant when accepting card payments, it is very important to ensure that the terms and conditions are clear and up to date. If there are any restrictions when buying or canceling, we recommend that this information is provided during the payment process. For example, before the customer is transferred to the payment methods, the restrictions are displayed to the customer. The customer also needs to accept the cancellation policy by ticking a checkbox or similar. This will safeguard your position in situations where there is a payment dispute that is in violation of the terms and conditions. It is also good to check any special conditions that may apply to your industry in the card companies rules.
In Paytrail's payment service, it is possible to save credit card information for later use via tokenization. Tokenization is a secure and reliable way to store data. You can find more information about recurring payments on our website or in this article.
